A Brief History:
Nochikulam is a quiet ancient village in the pandian kingdom. It has derived its name out of the water pool and a plant called Nochi. It seems that most of the villagers are St. Thomas Christians. Once there was a village chief called as thirty houses Mukkanther who was a Christian. During the British rules some families had come from various places, such as kayal, Thattarmadam, Somanathaperi and Kanyakumari District. Many good old people say that there was a very big thatched Church and later a Kothique model Church was built. It was demolished by very Rev. Fr. Ambrose who built the new Church which was blessed by the Most Rev. S.T. Amalnather on 28.09.1994. When Nochikulam was a substation of Somanatherperi mission, a primary school was started in 1916. Later it was transferred to Sathankulam. For some time, Sisters of St. Anne of Thiruchirapalli had their mission here. Most Rev.S.T.Amalnather raised this sub-station into a parish on 02.09.1995. Rev.Fr. Soosai Raja was the first parish priest who upgraded the middle school into a high school in 1998.
