A Brief History
In 1544 the people of Kombuthurai were baptised St. Francis Xavier. The same year a small Church was built and an altar erected by St. Francis Xavier. Rev. Fr. G. Oswald Fernando renovated this Church 1991. Kombuthurai which was a substation to Virapandianpatnam for long period was made a substation of Chingithurai when it was made a parish. On 20th August 2003 Kombuthurai was made a separate parish by Bishop Peter Fernando. The Church at Kombuthurai is a shrine dedicated to St. Stephen. Rev. Fr. Xavier George renovated the Church a little bit. Once again the renovation of the church was began by Rev.Fr. Alexander and completion of the renovation took place at the tenure of the parish priest Rev. Fr. Victor Lobo and the church was blessed by Most Rev. Bishop Yvon Ambroise on 01.05.2013.

The presbytery was built by Rev. Fr. Denniz Vaiz and was blessed by Bishop Yvon Ambroise on 17.10.2006.
