A Brief History
Keezhavaippar is one of the prominent ‘PADROADO’ parishes of Pearl Fishery Coast and formed part of the Madras-Mylapore diocese. Even after the diocese of Thoothukkudi was erected in 1923, this parish continued to remain under Mylapore diocese. After the concordat between Vatican and Portugal on 1st April 1925, Keezhavaippar came under the diocese of Thoothukkudi on 4th April 1930. According to the mission diary of the Jesuits, already in 1571 there was a Church at Keezhavaippar, dedicated to Our Lady of Assumption. The altar was renovated in 1982. The front portion of the Church was extended in 1998. The new Presbytery was built in 1998. Renovation and extension of the parish church started on Jan 15th, 2022, and continuing...
