OUR LADY OF SNOWS MATRIC. HR. SEC. SCHOOL
T. Kallikulam

as

"Looking back gives us lessons; looking ahead gives us visions. Lessons from the past enhance our march towards the future".

Our Lady of Snows Matric. Hr. Sec. School is located at T.Kallikulam, Tirunelveli district. It is run by the Tuticorin Diocesan Association, a registered organisation of the Catholic diocese of Tuticorin. His excellency Most Rev. Dr. A. Stephen, being the President of the Association is the Patron and Manager of the school.

The catholic diocese of Tuticorin besides taking care of the pastoral needs of the people is very much concerned about the socio-economic upliftment of the people, for which it runs a great number of educational institutions and social organisations. As Vadakkankulam vicariate had no such institution where students can be specially trained to stand keeping their heads held high in the competitive world, the diocese felt the dire need of an immediate English medium school in this locality. On 28.04.2016 His Excellency Most Rev. Dr. Yvon Ambroise, the then bishop of Tuticorin diocese, blessed and laid the foundation for the school building. As planned the construction works went on in full swing and the new school was blessed and opened by His Excellency Most Rev. Dr. Yvon Ambroiseon 27.04.2017 and the school started functioning from the academic year 2017 2018.The school which had its humble beginning has risen to its great height. It's now six years old with the strength of 910 students and 52 staff, teaching and the non-teaching. Our school is a Mount Tabor. Whoever steps into the portals of OLS gets transformed into the Outstanding Loving Students. Yes, that is what OLS stands for, outstanding and loving students.

Curriculum
A real education does not mean injecting ideas rather inculcating ideals. Our curriculum has been specially designed aiming at the holistic education, that is four 'S- Study, Sports, Spirituality and Social responsibility. It focusses on 3 'H formation, formation of Head, Heart and Hands - head to think, heart to love and hands to play and work.

• We follow CBSE syllabus for the primary classes and Samacheer for others.
• The teacher student ratio in the primary sections is 1:25. Individual care and attention is given to each child, because each child is a world for us.
• Our KG students are trained to speak in the daily assembly.
• Our first std. students can tell the time looking at the clock.
• Every week one hour is allotted for the science project, computer and audiovisual, indoor games, sports, boost your brain and tap your talents, that is, classwise cultural programs.
• Spoken English is given due importance and students are introduced into the field of phonetics.

Literary Club - Today's readers are tomorrow's leaders. Our students are introduced into the habit of reading newspaper and books. A library hour in a week is compulsory for all students. They are asked to take note of what they read. The best readers are awarded with prizes.
Reading Practice- Reading aloud helps a student master his language. To have a high command over the language, students have classwise reading practice everyday morning for fifteen minutes.
Five Minutes Exercise - Before we begin the class everyday we rejuvenate the students with a five-minute exercise, like laughing day, clapping day, dance day, yoga day and so on.
Developing the Lateral Thinking - With the view to prepare our students for a better future we have a special program "Train Your Brain". It cultivates and sharpens the students' aptitude and reasoning ability.

Special Features of Our School

• We have introduced bonanza offers for meritorious students.
• Monday uniform is a milestone in the history of our school. Our students in coat look very smart and feel elated and proud.
• We have pioneered in releasing the school magazine, Snowphia meaning 'wisdom Carr from the Snows', a bi-lingual quarterly. This is an open platform where students and teachers exhibit and embellish their varieties of talents and give wings to their imagination and life to their thoughts.

Staff Enrichment Programs
The quality of the students depends on that of the teachers. To enhance the quality of the teachers, many workshops are regularly conducted. A special handwriting training is given to the teachers by the Masterbrain team. Periodical classes are conducted for them by learned priests and they are given regular assignments to improve their language and pedagogy of teaching.

Celebrations
We are called to celebrate life. Celebrations make the students alive and the campus more colourful. We have a plethora of regular celebrations like Educational development day, Teachers' day, Children's day, Christmas, Pongal and so on. Besides these, we make the kids learn through fun and activity, celebrating special days like colour days, balloon day, chocolate day, fruits day, grandparents day and the like.

Competitions
Each person is unique and special. No two persons here on the earth are the same in all spheres. Competitions pave the platform where students exhibit their myriad of talents. We have an array of competitions throughout the year. To cite a few, we have star making competition, album making competition, 203 beads rosary making competition and so on. The memorable event was the kite festival held on 10th February 2023. More than 300 students participated in it and let their kites fly in the sky.

Sports and Games
Existence becomes critical without exercise. Food to the body stands incomplete without physical drill. Our school gives equal attention to sports and games. We have all kinds of play courts. Our students have participated in various sports and games conducted by the department of education and other organisations and brought laurels to our school.

Mother Teresa Helping Hands
Students are the part and parcel of our society. They must be sensitive to the deep sighs and sufferings of the poor. To realize this, Mother Teresa Helping Hands, the charity wing of our school has been formed with the motto" To serve God by serving the poor". They regularly visit the homes for the aged, the poor, the orphans and render their help.

Co-curricular Activities
We have a host of extra-curricular activities organized throughout the year. They are skating, silambam, karate, kung fu, archery, yoga, keyboard, bharatanatyam and many more.

Good, better, best. We never rest till good becomes better and better becomes the best. We do our best to make our students the best. Even though our past is golden, I do believe that the best is yet to be. Let's be prepared to welcome the future with better hopes and dreams
