Mary Immaculate Matriculation Higher Secondary School
Sathankulam

as

"Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world" says Nelson Mandela. It is through education that we can hope for a more harmonious society. To achieve the dream of creating a better society, Rural and Urban developments should go hand in hand. Keeping it in mind, the Diocese took the initiative to establish this Matric School in this rural location which can be affordable to the middle as well as lower economic groups of the society. This initiative echoes the voice of our Lord Jesus "that all may have life and have it in abundance" (John 10,10). It is our strong belief that this will surely enable the students in the surrounding villages being at par with the level of urban education and develop themselves better.

Mary Immaculate Matriculation Higher Secondary School situated in Sathankulam is one of the five matriculation schools run by the Tuticorin Diocesan Association of the Catholic Diocese of Tuticorin. It was established recently and was started in the academic year 2016-2017 from classes LKG to VIII Std with the intention of educating the children of this locality. The total strength of the students increased dramatically in the following years, thanks to all the teachers and to the management for their commitment and their dedicated service. The school was upgraded as High School in 2019 and was recognized as Higher Secondary School from LKG to XII in 2021. It was really an impressive and a stunning performance in a short period of time.

Our students took the Tamil Nadu State Board SSLC and +2 written exams for the first time held after the Covid-19 in 2022. Despite the challenges and hurdles owing to the Covid- 19 pandemic, our students put up an excellent performance in the board exams. In the very first time of the appearance in the public exams, the school achieved centum pass results in both X and XII std. It was an extremely proud moment for the school to see one of our students securing centum in one of the subjects. Considering the fact that the pandemic had a profound impact on the lives of the students, it was, indeed, a great achievement and we congratulate our students and teachers for the 100% results in their very first appearance after continuing without exams for two years.

The NEXT Education method of teaching is followed in the school up to the Fifth std. The Tamil Nadu State Board syllabus is followed for all the other classes up to the XIIth std. Academic performance alone will not suffice to help the students to face the challenges of a competitive world. Keeping this in view, various competitions, games, sports, cultural and training programs are organized to tap the potential talents of the students. We have introduced the ways to improve our children's self-esteem with the extracurricular activities in the field of arts, music and sports. Celebrations of various kinds like Deepavali, Pongal, Christmas, Independence Day, Republic Day and in addition, Educational Tour, Cultural Events, Sports Meet, Annual Day are organized every year to unleash the potentialities of the students focusing on their integral growth. The school aims at imparting a total and integral formation to the students that they may become worthy citizens of our country. It helps the children to become their better and natural selves. The school operates all its activities with the motto "Growing in wisdom and values". To achieve this end, the school urges the students to be socially aware and contribute their best to build a more equal and just society in India. We are committed to help every student in our School to bring out their full potential which guarantees them a bright future.
