The History of Tuticorin Diocesan Laity Center

The Tuticorin Diocesan Laity Centre was established by Very. Rev. Fr. Lambert Miranda on 23.08.1988 at catholic bishop's house campus in priests' residence with the objective of empowering lay people to bear good fruits and to become salt of the earth.

With the vision and the need for constructing a new building for the Diocesan Laity Centre a separate land was bought by the diocese at Caldwel Colony. Bishop Antony Grazianni from the diocese of Chieti, Italy, made a good contribution and great support to actualize the dream for the new building. The foundation stone was laid on 08.12.1988 and the new building was opened on 24.11.1989 by Bishop S.T. Amalanathar.

Laity centre in addition to the following four commissions, assists, co-ordinates, and gives spiritual guidance to the Pious Associations such as Vincent de Paul Society, Legion of Mary, Holy Family Association, and Our Lady of Conception Association

The Laity Centre aims and functions to form the laity as the light and salt of the earth for the kingdom of God. It also works to make the local church as the Synodal church through Communion, Participation and Mission.
