Brief History of St. Ignatius Industrial School :
The first bishop of Tuticorin Most Rev. Bishop Francis Tiburtius Roche on 4th January 1929, started the industrial school and hostel in a small shed with few students. Mr. V. Savarimuthu Konar was the first teacher to teach carpentry. In 1930 one Mr. A. David from Kallathikinaru, a professionally trained teacher at Dindivanam carpentry School was appointed. He brought six students from his village and admitted them in the Carpentry school. Rev. Fr. Joseph Roche was the first Correspondent of the School. With all his efforts St. Ignatius Industrial School was recognized by the Government (Govt. Order 804-C/29 dt 24.01.1930) From there onwards students who passed 7th std were admitted and given training in carpentry and cabinet making trade. The training period was 3 years. In 1996 Non-formal industrial training was introduced with the efforts of the then TMSSS director Rev.Fr. Antonysamy for school dropout students and for those who were unable to continue their regular studies. Apart from carpentry, Welding, Fitter, Electrical Technician, Two wheeler Mechanism, Dissel Mechanism, Multimedia Computer Designing and Fashion Designing courses are offered at the school. Hostel facility for boys are available with minimum fee.
St. Xavier Press / Inigo Press
In nineteen fifties Bishop Francis Tiburtius Roche started a printing press mainly to print “Xavier Gnanathoothan” and other diocesan materials. It was started with one treadle machine in St. Xavier primary School premises and was named “St. Xavier Press”. Later it was shifted to Roche Hall in Cathedral campus. In October 1978 St. Xavier Press was again shifted to St. Ignatius Industrial School premises, Innaciarpuram, with the new name "Inigo Press". In 1996 Fr. Mariadas Lipton disowned the treadle machines and installed Offset Printing machines, computers and other equipments related to offset printing technology. Now the printing press is well equipped with 3 offset machines, two desktop computers, cutting machine, and other tools.
